The project
With the event series titled "Receiving the World – Mapping Democracy", the Goethe Institut explored new challenges to our understanding of democracy and aimed to enable a global conversation with multiple voices, in multiple languages and without time delay. In four live events, six experts in three different locations discussed via video conference their hopes, expectations and fears on the issue of democratization. Listening in at each event were speakers and audiences in Munich with Cairo and Madrid, Beijing and London, and Washington DC and Athens, respectively.
My responsibilities
As assistant project manager I was in charge of research and communication with speakers and experts, arrangements with partners and venues, press work and other organizational tasks. During the event Munich/Cairo/Madrid I attended the discussion from the location in Cairo where in order to cross the infamous Tahrir Square, I had to circumvent tear gas clouds from clashes the night before - quite an appropriate setting for a discussion on democracy!
